Technician

& Environmental Services, Inc.
Summary: The
Field Materials Technician is expected to perform all aspects of field
observations and field and/or lab testing in conformance with GES, Inc.,
quality standards, and client schedules. The Field Materials
Technician performs testing on construction materials such as soil, concrete,
asphalt and other specialized materials. They are expected to
coordinate all activities with the field supervisors, project managers and assistant
project managers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform field/laboratory
testing and prepare detailed reports summarizing construction materials
field/lab testing and observations with quality and accuracy, delivering
results on time

Obtain and maintain
relevant certifications
·
Follow Safety Manual
guidelines
·
Pick up field samples
for laboratory testing.
·
Discuss scope of materials
testing and scope of projects with the PM/APM’s.
·
Maintain testing
equipment in a clean, working order, ensuring compliance with ASTM standards.
·
Ensure punctuality and
coordinate effectively with Dispatch, clients, and contractors.
·
Demonstrate and foster a
positive work environment
·
Demonstrate a strong
commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
·
Inform field
representative of field test results
·
Represent themselves
professionally to internal and external clients.
·
Perform other duties as
assigned

Testing and inspections will
be completed on schedule, adhering to the company's quality standards. Clients
and contractors will receive accurate test results promptly, supporting
exceptional customer service. All field testing and observations will align
with the daily schedule and company standards, fostering positive relationships
among technicians, project managers, clients, and colleagues
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS DESIRED
Education:
- High school diploma
or equivalent; additional technical coursework or an associate’s degree in
construction materials, engineering technology, or a related field is
advantageous.
- Active certifications
such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification, Nuclear Gauge
Safety, NAQTC (Nevada Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction) or
certification for specific ASTM/AASHTO testing procedures.
- OSHA 10 hour or 30
hour certification
Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge
of testing procedures and standards, particularly ASTM/AASHTO standards
for materials testing.
- Familiarity with a
range of materials (e.g., concrete, asphalt, soil) and testing protocols
for each.
- Working knowledge
of construction safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Understanding of
quality control and how testing data impacts project specifications and
quality assurance.
Skills:
- Proficiency with
testing equipment, including setup, calibration, and maintenance in line
with ASTM/AASHTO standards.
- Ability to
independently perform standard field tests, record accurate data, and
troubleshoot basic issues with equipment.
- Strong
communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating effectively with
dispatch, clients, and contractors.
- Time management and
organizational skills to follow the daily field schedule efficiently and
prioritize tasks as needed.
- Problem-solving
skills to address on-site challenges, with minimal supervision required.
- Intermediate
computer skills for data entry and report generation
- Effectively
communicate testing results to clients, contractors and project managers
