GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Field Materials Technician is expected to perform all aspects of field observations and field testing in conformance with GES, Inc., quality standards, and client schedules.  The Field Materials Technician performs testing on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt and other specialized materials.  They are expected to coordinate all activities with the field & lab supervisors, project managers and program managers. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Perform field testing and prepare detailed reports summarizing construction materials field testing and observations with quality and accuracy, delivering results by end of day

·      Obtain and maintain relevant certifications

·      Follow Safety Manual guidelines

·      Pick up field samples for laboratory testing.

·      Discuss scope of materials testing and scope of projects with the PM/APM’s.

·      Communicate proactively with Supervisors, PM/APMs and clients to discuss progress of field work

·     Maintain assigned equipment in a clean, working order, ensuring compliance with ASTM/GES standards.

·     Ensure punctuality and coordinate effectively with Dispatch, clients, and contractors.

·     Demonstrate and foster a positive work environment

·     Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.

·     Inform on-site representative of field test results

·     Represent themselves professionally to internal and external clients.

·     Perform other duties as assigned

Testing will be completed on schedule, adhering to the company's quality standards. Clients and contractors will receive accurate test results promptly, supporting exceptional customer service. All field testing and observations will align with the daily schedule and company standards, fostering positive relationships among technicians, project managers, clients, and colleagues.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS DESIRED

·        High School diploma or equivalent

·        Valid driver’s license

·        Ability to take and pass written & performance-based evaluations

·        Math and measurement skills; attention to detail in recordkeeping

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing ladders/scaffolding, and navigating uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment and materials.
  • Good vision and hearing to observe work and communicate effectively on noisy construction sites.
  • Manual dexterity to operate testing equipment and tools.
  • Physically able to crouch, bend, stoop, and reach as required for inspections.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.

REQUIRED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE

·        GES Safety Orientation (PPE, site hazards, emergency response)- required upon hire and as updated

·        Nuclear Guage Safety & Transport Certification (must obtain within 30 days of employment and must maintain active certification as a condition of employment) ((As Applicable))

·        Trench and Excavation Safety Awareness Training (must obtain within 30 days of employment and must maintain active certification as a condition of employment)

·        OSHA 10-Hour Certification (must obtain within 30 days of employment and must maintain active certification as a condition of employment)

·        Heat Illness Prevention Training (must obtain within 30 days of employment and must complete annual certification training as a condition of employment)
