DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This position provides support to the Occupational Health program and staff. Principal areas of endeavor are in the medical clinical aspects of the occupational medicine program.

 

·        Provides occupational health nursing services to preserve the health of employees and client personnel.

 

·        Systematically assess the health status of personnel, analyze data, and formulate a plan of care, which is realistic in relation to the employee’s capabilities and job requirements.

 

·         Recognizes and treats illnesses and injuries according to established operating instructions.

 

·          Responsible for ensuring the security, integrity, and confidentiality of patient health information created, obtained and/or maintained by KSC Occupational Health and comply with all applicable privacy act (HIPAA) regulations. 

 

·        Identifies and records signs and symptoms of physical and mental conditions.

 

·        Counsels employees regarding safety, health, and wellness practices.

 

·       Assists with physical examinations, and demonstrates proficiency in performance of visual testing, audiometric testing, spirometry, obtaining a 12 lead EKG , and performing venipuncture as assigned.

 

·       Maintains proficiency in venipuncture and insertion of an intravenous catheter when required for the purpose of administering emergent intravenous medication, fluid or intravenous access when required for emergent patient transport.

 

·       Arranges patient referrals to offsite physicians, ergonomic evaluations, and rehabilitation organizations. Coordinates with appropriate client contacts and provide for appropriate follow-up care.

 

·       Dispenses, monitors, and records controlled drugs and narcotics as ordered.

 

·        Administers immunizations, intravenous fluids, medications, and perform other medical procedures as required. Maintains the ability and skill level to administer qualified basic and advanced life support.

 

·        Provides nursing support on site in dispensaries or at other sites in support of client specific operations. Maintains clinical facilities in accordance with established practices and procedures.

 

.        Provides first aid care to visitors and guests at remote sites during special events as requested.         

 

·        Operates communications equipment and maintains logs of all communications, with assistance from other assigned staff.

 

·         Maintains cognizance of health and safety hazards in the work place and notify appropriate personnel of any health/safety concerns.

 

·        Applies and utilizes equipment according to established medical standards and industry-accepted practices and maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

 

·        Accepts assignments in all applicable Occupational Health facilities on a rotating basis; rotate shifts as required and cross train in all work areas as assigned.

 

·         Performs health education, and counseling as requested or required.

 

·         Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education.

 

·        Meets the mandatory requirement of availability for launch and landing operations, special events medical coverage.

 

·          Assists in active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA VPP, ISO, JCAHO, and other mandated regulatory or conformance regulations/standards.

          Is aware of and complies with documented company policies, procedures and JSA’s

 

Works to provide documentation in all types of charting available in the KEMCON contract including the EHR-Medgate, HUMS, and paper charting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education / Training:

 

  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse in State of Florida

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN, COHN-S) preferred. If not certified must become certified within 2 years of eligibility.

  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience in occupational health nursing, hospital critical care/emergency nursing, or a combination.

  • Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (AHA) required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) required.

  • Valid State of Florida drivers’ license within 30 days of employment.

  • Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (OHC) or obtain within 9 months of start date.

     

     

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

     

     

              Physical requirements:

     

    ·        Ability to lift a 200-pound patient with assistance of another staff member, using proper body mechanics.

     

    ·        Ability to perform 15 to 20 minutes of CPR, which includes adequate chest compressions and rescue breathing, for an obese patient in a cardiac arrest.

     

    ·         Ability to bend, stoop, push, pull and reach over head.

     

    ·         Ability to push a 200-pound patient in a wheelchair.

     

    ·          Ability to demonstrate adequate CPR on a mannequin.

     

    ·        Ability to climb hills, or up to 8 flights of stairs, while carrying a medical bag and a Robert Shaw (O2/suction unit) when responding to an emergency outdoors in humid 90-degree weather. The medical bag and O2 equipment weigh approximately 30 pounds.

     

    ·         Ability to perform duties for a period of 4-6 hours, outdoors in humid, 90+ degree weather

     

     

    This position requires the employee be accessible by electronic means in order to be reached in an emergency, which may require overtime, etc., for emergency response to unplanned work requirements.

    Maintain current training and proficiency in Biological Hazard Protection i.e. Blood Borne Pathogen and biological hazardous waste.

     

    Proficient in basic computer operations including word and pdf documents, email, and data entry in an electronic health record.
