Food Pantry Specialist

The Food Pantry Specialist will be assisting with the day-to-day operations of our busy food pantry. Our food pantry serves 100+ families daily. This position helps ensure that food distribution, organization, and client service run smoothly while maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. The right person for this position needs to be an individual who loves to work hard and values the community. Food Pantry Specialist should be friendly and compassionate and possess great customer service skills, in a fast-paced environment.


Task/Responsibilities:

  • Get food pantry ready for daily services – stock shelves, prep bags, check food for signs of spoilage.
  • Pick up a wide variety of food from local Supermarkets and deliver it to JFSA food pantry and clients around the valley.
  • Ensure time management, schedules and routes are met daily
  • Load and unload boxes of food at scheduled locations
  • Weigh in all donations to the food pantry and log the numbers
  • Ensure all food is properly put away for distribution
  • Conducts housekeeping to assure that work areas meet USDA standards for cleanliness and that areas are organized, and Clean.
  • Greet client’s curbside and add assistance records in real time using our intake software.
  • Keep shelves and refrigerators stocked using a first in first out model while checking for spoilage.
  • Receive deliveries from Three Square Food Bank and other vendors.
  • Assist clients with our pop-up Market; keeping things stocked.
  • Assist in loading and unloading food for pop up markets.
  • General housekeeping duties include cleaning regularly touched surfaces, cleaning refrigerators and freezers, sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash/recycling.
  • Keep all work areas clean and organized.
  • Check refrigerator/freezer temperatures twice daily keeping food safety standards.

Skills/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or higher
  • Valid Driver License issued by the state of Nevada
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles
  • Bi-lingual- Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Motivated, self-starter with strong time management
  • Must be honest, courteous, and consistent.
  • Ability to stay positive in demanding and busy situations.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to walk, drive, lift, and carry up to 50lbs daily
  • Ability and willingness to obtain ServSafe Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends if required.
  • Be able to pass Background check.


Physical Demands: Ability to drive, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to perform push/pull movements and to lift up to 25- 50 lbs. daily.
