Job Duties/Functions: Perform analysis and evaluation tasks ensuring that Center operations demonstrate National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance and environmental regulatory compliance in NASA operations, project reviews and construction activities. Compliance ensures protection of the environment from potential harm resulting from Center activities and operations.

Ensures NEPA compliance by evaluating and processing KSC Environmental Checklists and other NEPA and environmental planning documentation to ensure regulatory compliance. Through the use of research, investigation, and analysis ensure potential environmental impacts are identified and documented.

Advises and collaborates with engineers, project managers, construction personnel and technical specialists to develop strategies to ensure regulatory compliance of KSC activities, projects and construction. Collaboration may include but is not limited to environmental compliance related activities, document reviews, site visits, and meetings.

Apply technical expertise to identify and resolve potential problems and communicate with NASA, contractor and subcontractor personnel concerning environmental requirements, potential non-compliance conditions and provide technical environmental expertise to facilitate problem resolution.

Education/Training:

Bachelor’s degree or better in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related Environmental discipline and a minimum of 7 years of experience in Environmental Planning and Environmental Compliance; prefer experience to include NEPA compliance, and environmental regulatory compliance of design and construction projects.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of Kennedy Space Center operations, KSC environmental policies, NASA environmental requirements (KNPRs, NPRs, etc.), and Federal, State and local environmental regulatory requirements desired.

Experience working with project managers, environmental professionals, ecologists and engineers desired.

Experience in Environmental Resource Permitting is a plus.

Must possess strong interpersonal and problem resolution skills.

Must possess and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must possess the ability to use modern project and office management software systems such as Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions:

Must thrive in a team atmosphere and effectively work with all levels of employees. General office environment may require minor lifting and bending. May require some field work to observe operations, conditions, facilities, or natural habitat. Must be able to navigate uneven terrain and work in typical outdoor temperatures.

Normal daily work week schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends when necessary.

Complies with all Company safety policies and site-specific safety procedures. Must be willing to ensure safe operating conditions within all areas of responsibility and identify, act and report on areas of safety or hazard concerns.
