LOCATION:        Mound House, NV

REPORTS TO:   Program Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: 0

PROGRAM:       Drilling

PAY RANGE:     $32 - $42 DOE


SUMMARY                                                                                                                                                                                       

The lead driller will assist on assuring that all drilling staff members perform according to quality standards, and that client schedules are met, and that equipment and supply issues are properly reported to the logistics specialist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS                                                                                                                                                               

  • Perform geotechnical and environmental drilling
  • Install and plug monitoring wells
  • Follow Safety Manual Guidelines and work safely at all times
  • Meet general job expectations:
  • Complete required project, safety, reporting, maintenance, and inventory documentation daily
  • Promote that all drilling staff members follow Safety Manual Guidelines and work safely at all times
  • Monitor and review work for drillers and drillers’ assistants; conduct monthly coaching and make recommendations for improvement of problem areas and for career development and advancement; identify training and development needs and opportunities for training; maintain discipline; recommend problem and conflict resolution for corrective action to enforce company policies and procedures
  • Track drilling staff hours and sign all daily drilling tickets daily
  • Respond to all staff member concerns and develop resolutions expeditiously
  • Show good teamwork efforts
  • Report equipment maintenance and inventory needs
  • Mentor others
  • Assist with hiring, salary adjustments and training of drilling staff as requested
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and contribute to a harmonious atmosphere
  • Support the team, the manager and the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Create strong positive bonds with new and existing clients, identify their drilling needs, accomplish projects on time and budget
  • Travel, nights and/or weekends is required


DESIRED OUTCOMES OR RESULTS                                                                                                                                          

  • All drilling is performed safely in a manner consistent with the company’s goals & core values. In addition to performing and knowledge of drilling activities, the lead driller will work closely with supervisor and clients to troubleshoot as needed.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS DESIRED                                                                                                                

  • Ability to work safely
  • At least 5 years relevant experience performing geotechnical and/or environmental drilling using hollow-stemauger, solid stem auger, mud rotary, and/or sonic drilling methods
  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License; CDL if required for assigned equipment
  • Water Well NDWR license required or ability to obtain license within 6 months of employment
  • Minimum 2 years High School strongly preferred
  • Good physical condition
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
  • Mechanical skills
  • Works well with others
  • OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER and MSHA 40 hour training a plus
